Reporting to the Colonel

Posted on Wed Nov 27th, 2019 @ 5:05pm by Colonel Jack Pike & Lieutenant Anja Rill

Mission: Mission 2: Escort

Anja Rill found her quarters and checked to make sure all her boxes were accounted for, then she changed into a fresh uniform and went in search of the colonel to report in and learn more of what he expected from her on the ship.

When she learned where he was, she went to his ready room and rang the chime.

Jack was in his ready room going over the latest report that he was about to forward to Star Fleet command about their last mission, the New Hampshire was docked at Star Base 400 for a couple days, hearing the door chime he looked up for a second "Enter"

She walked in and took a quick look around the ready room to see what the colonel chose to put there. Then she smiled at him. "Hello, Colonel Pike. I'm Anja Rill, your new Chief Diplomat."

Jack stood up and extended his hand "Good to meet you Lieutenant."

"A pleasure to meet you," she said, taking his hand. "I look forward to working with you." He was not at all what she expected, but she liked what she saw and felt she would enjoy working with this colonel.

"Have a seat." He then walked over to the replicator and ordered a cup of Hawaiian blend coffee "Care for anything Lieutenant?"

"Ginger tea, please," she said, sitting down. She watched him, the way he moved, to better understand what sort of man he was.

Jack nodded then turned and punched the order in, he placed his cup down then grabbed the other cup, he handed it to her then sat down in his chair "So what made you decide to request to join the New Hampshire?"

She smiled her thanks as she took the cup. "A new challenge. Plus I read up on the crew and I think I'll like working here," she said. She took a sip and decided to be totally honest. "I wanted to work with you."

Jack took a sip of coffee as he listened to her "And why do you want to work with me?"

"Your reputation. Your career." She took a sip of her tea. "You're someone I can work with, and someone I can learn from."

He placed his cup down looking at her "I have read your file as well and heard some things about your career."

"Hopefully what you've heard is good," she said, wondering what exactly he heard. She'd done nothing to get in trouble, but she did occasionally work in the gray areas--generally because she felt it was for the greater good.

Jack almost raised an eyebrow "Why are you afraid there is some deep dark secret out there that you don't want anyone to know about?"

She chuckled softly. "I'm not afraid of what's on my record, but there's occasionally someone who thinks there should be. In both diplomacy and intelligence, you get people who don't like you because you're good, or because they think they deserve what you have, or because they disagree with a decision you made." She shrugged. "Or simply because they don't like the color of your shoes. So, I'm curious about what you've heard."

He looked at her then took a long sip of his coffee "Don't worry Lieutenant, everything that I have heard about you isn't bad. And trust me when you become a CO of a ship there are ones out there who hate you and don't think that you deserve it."

"I agree. That's part of my job, sifting through information to find out what's true and what isn't." She also had a good sense for who was lying, assisted by being Betazoid.

"We all have some part to play in the job that we take on."

She nodded. "What do you expect of me?" she asked.

"I expect you to help me with diplomatic things and intelligence gathering if need be."

She nodded. "Of course. Is there anything particular I should know about my job here, or just business as usual?"

Jack shook his head "No just business as usual."

"That sounds easy enough, although I doubt it will stay that way." She smiled. Life on a starship rarely stayed easy.

He nodded "True you never know what could happen."

"If you don't mind, Colonel, tell me something about your ship from your perspective." She could always look up specs and personnel, but it always helped to get someone's personal opinion. Especially the commanding officer.

He drank some of his coffee then looked across at the officer "The New Hampshire is a fine ship, I have had command of her for awhile now and we've gotten through a few things together. I trust the ship with my life, and as long as I keep taken good care of the ship, hope to be in command for many years to come."

Anja nodded. "Thank you."

"Welcome. Is there anything that you wish to discuss Lieutenant.?"

"Not at the moment," she said. "I may have questions as I get settled in, but right now, I'm good."

Jack nodded "Feel free to come to me anytime Lieutenant, my door is always open."

"Thank you." She stood and bowed. "Until later."

"Until later then Lieutenant." Jack nodded
